Jesus wept. Then the Jews said, "See how he loved him!" John 11:35-36 John 11:35 is the shortest scripture in the Bible, but it is one of the most powerful. God in the flesh (John 1:1, 14), creator of heaven and earth (John 1:3), the same creator who wiped out the entire human race, except for eight people and some animals (Genesis 7:1-24), the King of kings and Lord of lords (Revelation 17:14), wept. What was he weeping about in John 11:35? Jesus was weeping at the graveside of his friend Lazarus. Incredible isn't it, that God himself has such feelings, such compassion for the created. Isn’t this the type of heart God desires for us to have for others. (Romans 12:15-16) Some have asked, what is compassion? According to Webster it’s defined as; merciful, tender, soft, indulgent, kind, and gracious.
- Our God, who is so much greater than us, has compassion and weeps for people, we too can be emotionally involved with our brothers, sisters and the lost. (Galatians 5:13-17)
- As true followers of Jesus we too must have the same heart and willingness to be emotionally close to people as Jesus was and still is; (Matthew 8:1-3)
- Are we sharing Jesus with the lost? God’s message is the only healing grace for our confused world. The harvest is plentiful yet the workers are few. Let us beg the Lord to send us out with a heart of compassion. (Matthew 9:35-38)
We are Christ ambassadors to the lost, the hurting, and the lonely.
Jesus allowed himself to hurt for others, feel emotional pain for those
suffering and to ultimately sacrifice all who had fallen short of God’s
glory.(John 13:3'-35) Paul says “So from now on we regard no one from a
worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we
do so no longer.” (2 Corinthians 5:16)
Let us be the living refuge of God on this earth where people can
come to find the love and peace of God? (Psalm 57) I believe we will
and we can. How will you be like Jesus today, this week, this month,
and this life time? GM
