On Friday, February 26th, Jen Gee was baptized. The following is a letter written byJen’s mom Janet, that Janet read at the baptism.
It started with a twinkle in Dad’s eye, then 9 ½ months later, an emergency c-section because you were playing jump rope with your umbilical cord in my womb. What a blessing and miracle you were born healthy. God melted my heart at that moment and I fell in love with being a mom! But you didn’t come with a handbook and parenting proved to be a challenge. Dad & I didn’t agree on how to raise you so we argued a lot. With baby #2 on the way and financial struggles we were on the path of destruction and our marriage was falling apart.
But God had a plan, and at just the right time Dad got invited to a bible talk. Not too long after that God’s word was transforming our lives. Dad studied and got baptized, I studied and got baptized, Jess was born; 2 ½ years later Tim was born. It was life to the full and we were happy! We still had our struggles and differences, but we always had God’s word to go back to.
As
a young toddler you were fascinated with the sky and often talked about
“the clouds opening up to heaven”. You had an inquisitive mind, a soft
heart and great enthusiasm for life. Dad and I thought for sure you
would be the first of our kids to pursue a relationship with God as you
grew up.And then when you were 10 years old, Dad lost his leg to cancer and something inside you changed.I
think you were mad at God and began to put some walls around that soft
heart. None of us could understand at the time, but I know that Dad is
a better man, husband and father today because of his cancer.
Soon
the teen years were upon us and more confusion, doubt and the ways of
the world troubled your soul. Boyfriends broke your heart, some friends
came and went, some friends stayed, some friends came back, jobs came
and went, you moved out and happiness was hard to find.
But
God had a plan, and used all these things for the good. This past fall
you began to realize how much you needed God and couldn’t do it on your
own anymore. Your faithful friend Amanda Plunkett invited you to come
to the Christmas service and that began your renewed search of the
truth.
You
were our prodigal daughter, our lost sheep and the hole in our hearts.
But now you have come back, you have been found and our hearts are
filled to overflowing.
There’s no greater joy for a parent than to see their children come to faith! And no greater peace for a family than to be united in Christ and to know God loves you even more than we do!!
You are destined to do great things for God!!Enjoy the journey!
