Special Ministries

The goal of the Granite State Church of Christ Music and Worship Ministry is to aid worshipers in the quest to understand and bond with God through music, scripture and drama. Building on a strong four-part harmony a cappella singing tradition, we continue to add diversity and innovation to our worship through instrumentation and a variety of musical styles, from classical hymns to contemporary Christian worship songs, to jazzy arrangements. We also strive for a mix of vertical (to God) and horizontal (to one another) singing to put Jesus’ greatest commandments into practice, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind,” and “Love your neighbor as yourself.” (Matthew 22:36-40 NIV).

We understand that not everyone has the same musical tastes, so we make an effort to maintain a diversity of musical styles to help each individual have an opportunity to connect with God through music. We simply try to follow the biblical instruction to, “be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Ephesians 5:18-20 NIV) Also, by mixing in scripture reading and prayer, music becomes an integrated part of the worship experience on many levels. The Spoken Word Team often adds a dramatic element, brining scriptures to life through choral readings.

The Worship Band currently consists of keyboard, acoustic and electric guitar, bass guitar, drum kit and Latin percussion and saxophones of various sizes, and a flute. As other instruments and vocal talents manifest themselves, we eagerly try to incorporate them into the group. Except for true “performances,” we see the Band as a support to the individuals singing in the congregation and try to become less so that the singing connection with God and one another can become more.
